What brings people to therapy

You don’t have to fit a diagnosis.
You just have to be going through something.

1. Grief & loss that doesn't fit neatly

Bereavement, but also the losses people don’t always name – fertility grief, the loss of your health, of a relationship, of who you thought you’d be. Grief that has no ritual or recognition.

2. A fertility journey and it's emotional weight

IVF, miscarriage, secondary infertility, involuntary childlessness. The exhaustion, the hope, the grief between cycles. Support that exists whether you’re in treatment or long after it’s ended.

3. Living with chronic pain or illness

When your body has changed and life has had to reorganise around it. The frustration of not being believed. The grief of the self you used to be. You deserve to be heard, not just managed.

4. Trauma and what it left behind

Things that happened that you’ve never quite recovered from. Patterns you can see but can’t stop. A feeling that something is wrong even when you can’t say exactly what. The past leaking into the present.

5. Anxiety and the weight of daily life

Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like you’re just getting through. Anxiety, low mood, and the particular exhaustion of keeping it together while everything feels uncertain.

6. Life transitions and who you're becoming

A relationship ending, a new one beginning. Career change, identity shift, becoming a parent or stopping trying to. The disorientation of change – even wanted change – and not knowing who you are now.

About Gita

A real person, not a platform

I’m Gita Singh, a BACP registered person-centred counsellor working in Shrewsbury and online across the UK. I’ve spent years working with people navigating grief, infertility, trauma, chronic pain, and the particular difficulty of feeling something you can’t quite name.

When you work with me, you get one person who will actually know you – not an algorithm, not a different therapist every few sessions, not a chatbot. Person-centred counselling means I follow your lead. I believe you are the expert on your own life.

“I won’t give you a framework to fit your feelings into. I’ll sit with you in them until they start to make sense.”
I also speak Hindi, and understand Punjabi and Urdu – for clients where English isn’t the language closest to their feelings, that matters.

What person-centred therapy means for you

Person-centred therapy isn’t about being given tools and techniques. It’s about being genuinely heard – perhaps for the first time – by someone who brings no agenda, no judgement, and no assumptions about what you should be feeling.

The relationship between us is the therapy. Research consistently shows it’s the quality of the therapeutic relationship – not the modality – that creates change. That’s what I’m here to offer.

Getting started

Three steps, no pressure

Free 20-minute call

We have a no-obligation conversation. You can ask me anything, tell me a bit about what’s going on, and get a feel for whether working together might be right for you. There’s no commitment.

First session

We take it slowly. The first session is about you beginning to tell your story at your own pace. There’s no rush and no wrong way to begin. We’ll talk about how often to meet and what you’d like from the work.

Ongoing at your pace

Sessions are weekly or fortnightly — whatever works for you. There’s no fixed number. We continue for as long as it feels useful, and you’re in control of when we wind down. No pressure, no packages you have to commit to.

Fees & formats

Honest pricing, no surprises

All sessions are 50 minutes and cost £50. That’s it – one clear price, no subscription, no algorithm, no hidden fees. You pay after each session by bank transfer or cash.

If you’d like to commit to a block of sessions, you can save 10% by booking six at once (£270 instead of £300). There’s no obligation to commit upfront.

Concessionary rates are available for those with financial hardship. Please mention this when we speak.

What clients say

Heard in their own words
★★★★★

“I’d tried therapy before and never quite felt understood. With Gita I felt, for the first time, like I didn’t have to perform being okay. She genuinely listened.”

Client, online sessions

★★★★★

“After years of IVF, I was exhausted in ways I couldn’t explain to anyone around me. Gita understood without me having to justify it. That made all the difference.”

Client, fertility counselling

★★★★★

“Living with chronic pain is isolating – people either minimise it or don’t know what to say. Gita just sat with me in it. I felt less alone than I had in years.”

Common questions

Things people want to know
What happens on the free discovery call?
It’s a relaxed 20-minute phone or video conversation. You can tell me a little about what you’re going through (as much or as little as you like), ask me anything about how I work, and get a sense of whether we might be a good fit. There’s absolutely no obligation to book anything afterwards. If it doesn’t feel right, I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction.
I've never done therapy before. Is that okay?
Completely. Most people come to their first session not quite knowing what to say or where to begin — that’s completely normal and not something you need to prepare for. We’ll start wherever you are, at whatever pace feels right. There’s no right or wrong way to do this.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
That’s genuinely up to you. Some people find that six to eight sessions gives them what they needed. Others prefer to work for longer, particularly if they’re exploring deeper or longer-standing things. I don’t impose a time limit, and we’ll review regularly how it’s feeling and whether it’s still useful.
Can I do sessions online if I'm not in Shrewsbury?
Yes – I work with clients from across the UK via Zoom. Online therapy works just as well as in-person for most people and offers real flexibility. If you’d prefer telephone sessions and video doesn’t work for you, that’s also an option. What matters is that you feel comfortable.
Do you offer a reduced rate if I can't afford £50?
I do keep a small number of concessionary rate spaces for people who genuinely cannot afford my full fee. Please mention this when we speak on our discovery call – I’d rather find a way to work together than have cost be a barrier.
Is what I say completely confidential?
Yes. Everything you share in sessions is confidential. The only exceptions are very specific legal situations where I would be ethically required to act – for example, if there was a serious risk to your life or someone else’s. I’ll explain the full framework for confidentiality in our first session so you feel clear about it.
What is person-centred counselling?
Person-centred therapy – developed by Carl Rogers – is built on the belief that you are the expert on your own life, and that the right conditions in a therapeutic relationship allow genuine change to happen. I won’t direct you, give you a programme to follow, or tell you what you should think or feel. Instead, I offer unconditional positive regard, empathy, and honesty – and follow your lead completely. Many people find this approach transformative precisely because it’s so different to being told what to do.

Ready to take that first step?

The free discovery call is 20 minutes, no obligation, and no pressure. Just a conversation to see if we might work well together. Most people say the hardest part was picking up the phone.
