This privacy policy explains how I, Gita Singh (MBACP), collect, use, and protect your personal information in line with UK data protection law (GDPR).

I take your privacy seriously and will only use your personal data for the purposes of providing a safe, ethical counselling service.

This policy is effective from: 1st November 2025.

Information we may collect from you

When you contact me or begin counselling, I may collect:

  • Your name and contact details (phone number, email address, home address)
  • Emergency contact details
  • Relevant personal information you share with me as part of our work together (for example, your experiences, health-related information, or life circumstances)

    Why do I collect this information?

    I collect and store information in order to:

    • Contact you about appointments
    • Provide a safe and effective counselling service
    • Meet professional requirements set by the BACP
    • Fulfil my legal and safeguarding responsibilities

    The lawful basis for holding and using this data is contract (our counselling agreement) and legitimate interest (providing safe therapeutic practice).

     

    How is information stored?

    • Paper notes are kept securely in a locked cabinet.
    • Digital records (emails, phone numbers) are stored securely on password-protected devices.
    • Only I have access to your information.

     

    How long is information kept?

    • Counselling notes are kept for up to 7 years after our work ends (in line with professional guidance) and then securely destroyed.
    • Contact details will be deleted once they are no longer needed.

    Confidentiality

    Everything you share in counselling is confidential, with the following exceptions:

    • If there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others
    • If required by law (e.g. a court order, terrorism, or money laundering)
    • In supervision (your identity is protected; supervision is a professional requirement to ensure safe practice)

    If I ever needed to break confidentiality, I would aim to discuss this with you first whenever possible.

    Cookies

    A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive.
