About me

Hi, I’m Gita, a person-centred therapist with a BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Therapeutic Practice. I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can feel truly heard and supported.

Outside of my work, I love running, cooking (especially Indian, Italian, and Mexican food), reading, and travelling – the things that keep me grounded and curious about life.

If you’re looking for someone who will listen openly, without judgment, and walk alongside you through life’s challenges, I’d be honoured to support you.

My Journey into Counselling

My path into therapy has been shaped by a wide range of learning and life experiences. I studied history for two years in Delhi before going on to train as a dentist. Later, I took time away from work to raise my children: an experience that taught me a lot about resilience, change, and human connection. When the time was right, I returned to study, and for the past five years I’ve dedicated myself to training and practice in psychotherapy.

I’ve built specialist knowledge in areas close to my heart, including grief, trauma, addiction, infertility, and suicide prevention. My approach is person-centred: I believe healing begins with genuine human connection, and that therapy works best when it moves at your pace.

Alongside English, I speak Hindi and understand Punjabi and Urdu, which can support clients who feel more comfortable bringing these languages into our conversations.

Work experience

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), I work within their ethical framework. I hold a First Class BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Therapeutic Practice from Staffordshire University, and I continue to deepen my knowledge through specialist CPD training in areas including grief, trauma, suicide prevention, and fertility counselling. I also engage in ongoing supervision and personal therapy, ensuring that my practice remains safe, reflective, and responsive to the needs of every client.

My work with Charities

Over the past two years I’ve worked with clients at Caritas in Shrewsbury (until August 2025) and at Ponthafren in Welshpool and Newtown, where I continue to practise as a counsellor. What began as a placement developed into ongoing professional work, supporting people through grief, trauma, anxiety, and life’s many transitions. This work has given me the privilege of sitting alongside people through some of life’s most difficult moments, and it has reinforced my belief that healing begins when we feel truly heard and supported.
